My last bike ride was the Friday commute home, after a support shift. Traffic very heavy for hereabouts, an accident at Victoria gardens had backed up the flow badly, then of course those car drivers can’t bear to see a cyclist in front of them, all trying to squeeze past, pushing me into the kerb, my tourettes was back with a vengeance!! The cause of all this was, sadly, that an older gentleman had been hit by a car on the road, when I passed they were still waiting for an ambulance to arrive, and I heard complaints, asking why the police hadn’t arrived, the police station is about 50 yards away!

By the time I’d passed this sad scene, I’d had enough of the traffic, the school pick up run was in full swing, and I felt like a target, so I headed for the canal towpath, it’s slower, much slower in fact, but so much safer. The weather was great, which made the detour even more attractive, and I was soon doing a stately 10 mph, alongside the picturesque canal. I really enjoyed the rest of the trip home, didn’t take any photos, as I didn’t want to dawdle.

Saturday and today have passed, with only an everso brief pedal up the village shops and back home. I’ve been very lazy, except for a bit of shopping, and a few touch up jobs with the paintbrush, around the house. Her indoors’ cousin is coming for a visit. As usual I feel guilty about the non cycling. Weightwise, I was on the scales at the local surgery on Friday morning, still 16 stone dead. Eating quite sensibly, but not enough strenuous exercise, given a serious warning that being so obese, I was increasing my chances of getting type 2 diabetes by 30% doh!

Had a very sensible breakfast this morning, a plate (small) of dried fruit, half a dozen dates, figs, cranberries and a banana, been starving ever since, despite a cheese and pickle sandwich (brown seeded loaf), and for dinner a piece of chilli beef pizza with a few chips, doh! Things are not moving fast or the way they should be.

Still back to the commute in earnest tomorrow. Checked my lights earlier, it’ll be pitch black when I set off at 04.15 in the morning. Possibly rain, nice change doh!
