Two weeks in ………
5January 14, 2013 by welshcyclist
Two weeks into 2013 and not enough miles under my belt. The threat of ice has caused me to wimp out on several early morning commutes, only to discover I could have ridden, once at work. Doah!!
As I sit typing this, it’s absolutely tipping down with a heavy sleety rain, fortunately it’s not settling, but I dread to think what it will be like outside if it freezes overnight. That’s the pessimist in me. Today we had a fair bit of sunshine and blue sky. The weathermen, sorry weather people, they’re mostly girls nowadays anyway, have been forecasting the big freeze since last Thursday. I haven’t seen the news today, as yet, but despite my fears of a possible frozen tomorrow, until the present it has been very mild. On my commute, it’s been a case of too many layers, and having to remove some, to stop perspiring. Long may it continue.
Saying all that has probably banjaxed the good cycling weather in these parts for a spell. I must apologise to my reader if he/she is local.
Keep doing what’s good for you, I think we’re both agreed that’s pedalling.
Cheers.
I have been too worried and not pedalled a couple of times recently when I could have. It is very annoying. I hope you get some decent weather.
Well, not today for sure, woke up to frozen roads, and thickly iced puddles. I’m off work today, but my sons had a terrible job getting ice off their cars to go to work. Must be -5-6 degrees centigrade. What is the difference betweenn centigrade and celsius? I hear both quoted, and I’m afraid I’m still a Farenheit kind of chap. ( is that how you spell it? )
Good morning my friend, glad to see you keeping up with the blog. Here in North Yorkshire we had snow yesterday, rain last night and ice this morning. We have gone in a week from 12C to -2C but managed the commute in by sticking to the main roads. You just worry when vehicles come up behind ” please don’t hurt me” I’m getting softer as I get older.
Yes, that’s a feeling/sense I can recognise. Good to hear someone is braving the possibility of ice on the roads, you make me feel even more of a wimp. Hope your commute keeps going right through this winter. Cheers.
I have stopped being scared off of a morning commute by the forecast for weather later. My take is that if I can get to work safely, the battle is half-way over.
Once I adopted that attitude, I figured out I lost a lot less commuting days to weather and have only had a few that were miserable trips home.
It also helps that I’ve got a willing ride waiting three blocks away if necessary!
